Another of Abruzzo special features is the very large number of ancient castles that are seen springing up everywhere.
An example, The Castle in Rocca Calascio, suspended between sky and earth to 1500 meters altitude, up to a few decades back the more elevated inhabited center of Abruzzo, Rocca Calascio, today, alive only of its ghosts. It is one of the best-preserved castles in Italy, taken in several films.
Its history belongs by now all to the Middle Age, a dilated middle age, lasted on the Abruzzi mountains since almost to the thresholds of ours ages. (Calascio, 1500 mt).
